Email

Any email app that supports IMAP works. We recommend:

The built-in Mail app.

Thunderbird for Android or K-9 Mail (F-Droid or Google Play Store).

Create an app password for this phone, e.g. named Fairphone – Mail – 2026-10-26 (with today's date), as described in App passwords. Keep it at hand for step 2.

You can also use your normal mailbox password instead, but this is less safe – see why.

Step 2: Set up the email account

  1. Open the mail app and choose Add account.
  2. Enter your email address <email>.
  3. Choose Manual setup (or Advanced / Configure manually) and the account type IMAP.
  4. Enter these settings:

    Incoming mail (IMAP)

    Setting Value
    Server <mail-server>
    Security SSL/TLS
    Port 993
Username your full email address <email>
Password the app password (or your mailbox password)

    Outgoing mail (SMTP)

    Setting Value
    Server <mail-server>
    Security SSL/TLS
    Port 465
    Authentication required / normal password
Username your full email address <email>
    Password same as above
  5. Finish the setup and send yourself a test email.

Tip

  • The username is always the full email address, not just the part before the @.
  • If your network blocks port 465, use STARTTLS on port 587 instead.
